Advances in the Party’s theoretical thinking over 40 years of Doi Moi

Abstract

Over 40 years of Doi Moi (1986–2026), the Communist Party of Vietnam has achieved significant advances in theoretical thinking, transitioning from a centrally planned model to a socialist-oriented market economy, and developing a comprehensive theoretical framework on socialism and the path toward socialism in Vietnam. Among these achievements, the most fundamental theoretical advancement has been the formulation and continual refinement of the theory of the renovation (Doi Moi) line. This article analyzes the profound transformations in the Party’s theoretical thinking over the past four decades and discusses emerging issues in the new period.
